Covid-19 Updates

Latest information regarding the impact of COVID-19 on our services. We will continue to monitor the situation and will follow advice from the government and Department for Education. The information on this page will be updated in line with government announcements.

1. Latest information from the government - UPDATED 08.03.2021

The government announced on 22nd February that the UK would be coming out of national lockdown in stages.

Under the guidance released it states that:

From 8 March

Pupils will return to face-to-face education in school and further education in England.

2. What does this mean for our services?

The government’s latest guidance is that from 8th March 2021 all schools & further education in England can re-open fully. Therefore, the rota system we had in place will be ending Friday 5th March & and all our leaners may return to the service as normal from Monday 8th March. If, however, if any of our learners choose to stay at home, or they are isolating, we will ensure that they still receive support in the form of weekly learning packs and updates. Contact with Supervisors, Therapists and Teachers will also continue to be available for all parents with their son/daughter at home. If any of our leaners are choosing to remain at home for the immediate future, we need to be informed of this as soon as possible, so we are able to manage this within our services.

3. My child has been isolating, what should I do about returning them to the service?

If any of our learners have been self-isolating due to them, or a member of their household having symptoms of COVID-19, they should only return after receiving a negative test result or on completion of the recommended isolation period and when they feel well enough to return.

Please contact us 2 days before the end of the isolation period to update us on when they will return.

4. What are the symptoms of COVID-19?

The most common symptoms of coronavirus (COVID-19) are recent onset of:

  • new continuous cough and/or
  • high temperature
  • a loss of, or change in, normal sense of taste or smell (anosmia)

For most people, coronavirus (COVID-19) will be a mild illness.

If your child or anyone in the household does develop symptoms, you can seek advice from NHS 111 or by phoning 111.

5. What to do if my son / daughter or someone in the household develops symptoms of COVID-19?
  • If your son/ daughter develops symptoms of COVID-19, arrange for a test to be done, they must then stay home for 10 days from the date when their symptoms first appeared. Please inform us as soon as possible of this, as well as their test results so we are able to manage the situation within the school accordingly
  • All other household members who remain well must stay at home and not leave the house for 10 days
  • The 10-day period starts from the day when the first person in the house became ill
  • Household members should not go to work, school or public areas and exercise should be taken within the home
  • Household members staying at home for 14 days will greatly reduce the overall amount of infection the household could pass on to others in the community
  • If you are able, move any vulnerable individuals (such as the elderly and those with underlying health conditions) out of your home, to stay with friends or family for the duration of the home isolation period
  • After the isolation period has finished and your child feels well enough to return to school, please contact us before they return so we can inform you of the procedure and timings to do so.
6. How to stop COVID-19 spreading

There are things you can do to help reduce the risk of you and anyone you live with getting ill with COVID-19.

Do

  • wash your hands with soap and water often – do this for at least 20 seconds
  • use hand sanitiser gel if soap and water are not available
  • wash your hands as soon as you get home
  • cover your mouth and nose with a tissue or your sleeve (not your hands) when you cough or sneeze
  • put used tissues in the bin immediately and wash your hands afterwards
7. What steps we will take if there is a suspected COVID-19 case within one of our services

The Department of Education have issued a recommendation that anyone showing even mild symptoms of COVID-19 should be sent home, and that household should self-isolate for 10 days. This is for both staff and pupils.

If your child begins to display symptoms whilst with us, we will call you immediately and arrange transport to return them home.

To help us manage the situation within services, we ask that you continue to keep us informed about the health of your child and if they have subsequently tested positive for COVID-19.

Any of our staff who have developed symptoms will also self-isolate until they have taken a test and had their results back.

We will write to you if there are any confirmed cases within the service, as well as informing you of how this is likely to impact you and your child.

When we find out about confirmed cases, we speak to Public Heath England for advice on what steps should be taken.

8. Precautions we have taken in the services

We are taking specific precautions to keep our learners and staff safe. This includes measures such as limiting the number of people in certain rooms, increasing the frequency of cleaning, and checking temperatures daily.

As of January 2021 we began regularly testing staff with lateral flow rapid testing kits.

For detail of the measures in place, read our risk assessment.

9. Visiting our services

Due to the new government measures we are currently not allowing visitors to our sites except for specific circumstances. Please speak to a member of staff before planning a visit so we can assess if this is a permitted visit and if so, advise you of what to do next.
